TEHRAN – Iran fought back from a two-goal deficit to beat Bosnia 5-2 in a World Cup warm-up match on Wednesday which raised serious questions about their defence in Germany.

World Cup hosts Germany came from two goals down to draw against Japan.

Japan profited from German disarray as the hosts experimented with a new formation and Naohiro Takahara struck two fine goals on 57 and 65 minutes.

Midfielders Mehdi Mahdavikia and Fereydoon Zandi will not participate in tomorrow’s friendly match against Bosnia & Herzegovina. Apparently they both traveled to Germany to receive treatment for their injuries.

Mahdavikia sustained his injury during a training session before the match against Croatia. Zandi seems to have aggravated an old injury.

Forget Rooney and his metatarsals: England’s fragile World Cup morale is reeling from the decision to choose Embrace, those sub-Coldplay plodders, to write the team’s official song. “World at Your Feet”, which comes out next week, is a dirge-like anthem whose air of defeatism suggests England’s fate is to be knocked out on penalties in the quarter-finals. “Yes, it can be done,” the chorus implores earnestly, though like a subconscious current of thought the melancholy music tells a different story. No, it can’t be done. Failure awaits.

An English family head out one Saturday to do some shopping. While in the sports shop the son picks up a Scotland football shirt and says to his sister, "I've decided to be a Scotland supporter and I would like this for my birthday." His sister is outraged by this and promptly whacks him round the head and says, "Go talk to your mother."
