LONDON – Iran's 21 year old midfielder, Mehrzad Madanchi, suffered an injury to his left foot during Iran´s training session.
The injury came about after an accidental knock from Ali Karimi, while the team was having a practice match in the Zeppelin Stadium training ground in Friedrichshafen, Germany.
Ironically Madanchi was brought on as a sub for Ali Karimi in the match against Mexico.
It is not clear how serious the injury is, and it may clear in time for Iran´s crucial match on Saturday with Portugal. Iran must get a draw or more realistically a win if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the next round.

Don’t worry Adrdavan jAn, Ali Parvin is going to replace him! I heard he is coming out of retirement so he can play midfield and get Daei more passes

I have heard that after the 1st half of Iran & Mexico game due to the celebration of the people in Iran (and the fact of what might happen if Iran wins the match) the Iranian president ordered for Iran to lose the game. Can anyone confirm this? Has anyone else heard of this?

During the training for the Portugal game we haven’t been lucky at all. But with Zandi back I hope that we will win and Mexico lose to Angola. I was very sad about the 2nd half during the Mexico game because it’s not how Iran plays football we play much better and we know that. I believe that Angola can make it against Mexico because they proved great game spirit against Portugal.
GOOOOOO IRAN!

Hi Saeid jAn, I read it online on ISNA, IPNA, or IRNA. One of those three.

i also heard that the iranian government told the players off and told them to lose. did anyone else notice that the players were not singing the anthem properly before the game started? a blatant sign of opposition to the Islamic regieme in Iran. Also, some of the players in the team (the couple who support the government) have friends in high places in Iranian government and thats the only reason why they play. i dont know who, but i think thats the only reason Daei still plays. and Azizi was kicked out of the squad because he was to open about his opposition to the government, it doesnt help team morale. the sooner the government stop inferring, the better it will be for iranian football. but it is not in the I.R.s best interests to let success in football create national unity

As much as respect i have for Mr. Dai for one of the first Iranian selected to play in Europian teams and one of the top scorer in the world,I have to admit that he needs to give up his role to Mr. GOAL, Enayati, howmany countries have you seen that their top scorer is not selected for the starter role in the National team roster?I hope Mr. Enayati will play on Saturdays game against Portugal,I am keeping my finger crossed, might as well rely on the luck versus Broncos decision. Our defence; However,is soft and weak ” papier-meache ” and I hope that Mr.Bronco woud come up with some alternatives,Lets win, Go Iran.

I think this kinda of political propaganda is disgusting!!
Ali Daei by all estimates should be a 20 minute player coming on the field as a sub. There is a lot of opposition to him in Iran to play as a starter. However in soccer unlike volleyball, wrestling, and a few other sports we are prone to gang type mentality and Ali Daei seems to have a large one at that. I also think that Ivanko is rather weak on a decision making level and his Iranian coaching satff has the same problem as the rest of our home grown coaches: THEY ARE CLUELESS!!
I would like to continue by saying that obviously you are not an athlete and on top of that you really have no clue when watching a soccer game. We lost the game due to tactical errors by the coach and errors by players (chain reaction). As usual when down, our athletes (at least in this game of soccer) seem unable to muster the necessary focus and energy to fight back. We can cetainly learn from the German’s focus, hard work, discipline, and pure desire to succeed.
