France v Ireland World Cup Qualifier: Thierry Henry Handball

Afshin Afshar, lastkick.com

Thierry Henry Handball

Hey football fans,

By now you have heard plenty of opinions about the France Ireland controversy, or to be more specific the Henry goal controversy.

Looking at the reply there is really no controversy, the man handled the ball, and as a result the Irish are out of the World Cup. This is almost as cruel as the Maradona’s “Hand of God” controversy, although in my opinion Maradona’s “goal of the century” in the same match redeemed him some.

I personally feel very bad for the Irish fans. But if there is any consolation, with a coach like Raymond Domenech the French will not be going anywhere fast during the summer!

Anyway, see the Henry clip here and judge for yourselves:

And what did Henry have to say about all of this? Well here he is talking to reporters after the match:

Is this the way Henry would like to be remembered when he retires? Perhaps not, but remember "One man's villain is another man's hero"!

henry should be ashamed of himself, this will ruin his career and he will be remembered for this just like diego marradona with the hand of god. i thought henry was better than that but now i know that instead of a man with sportsmanship he is just a fraud and a cheapskate if he wants to get his own reputation back he should own up to fifa and say that there should be a rematch. because ireland should be at the world cup instaead of france

Good! The Irish can’t play football. It is all kick and rush of the old fashioned English variety which even the English don’t play anymore and isn’t worth watching.

Now that Iran aren’t in, we like to relax and watch decent football and not Irish cr@p.

During our 1997 return play off game against Australia, Azizi was offside when he passed the ball to Bagheri and he put the ball in the empty net. For some strange reason the linesman did not call that obvious offside situation and we got away with it.

    Jimmy jAn,

For 12 years I have been arguing that with friends, and they refuse to accept that Azizi was offside until I show them this youtube clip, again, and again (Start watching from min 6:10 and make sure to listen to Azizi’s comments).

Then the response is, “Well maybe he was, but so what? We won!” Then I remind them that we won neither the home nor the away leg. Both games were ties. At that point they lose interest in the conversation, only to pick it up a year or two later! :-)

  5. Jimmy Says:

It was nice to see this interesting clip Afshin, and more interesting is the fact that Azizi, himself, admits he was in an offside position but your friends refuse to accept it. But let me ask you this Afshin was there much diffrence between Azizi’s offside position and Henry’s handling of the ball?

  6. Afshin Says:

    No, not in principle :-)
